Do we believe everything we hear? How do we know what’s real and what’s just a rumour?
Meet Lucy Hoot, the youngest in a big family of owls. She looks up to her big siblings and is counting down the days until she starts school. Lucy can’t wait to be a big owl like the rest of the family. But there’s a whisper among the owls about a first day curse. Is it true or just fake news?
You decide what’s true. A great moral about not listening to gossip for kids starting school. Enjoy!
In this book Katrina looks at shyness and when to know when something is a joke not to be taken literally. Like many of us over thinking and being sensitive are common.
Katrina is a visual artist and had a ball creating these characters. She studied at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. While at Whitecliffe one of her teachers told her she had dyslexia which had been a huge source of frustration for her. It was at Whitecliffe where she met her now husband. After getting married and having two daughters Katrina’s creative pursuits took a back seat to family and work. But boredom and frustration eventually led her back to drawing and painting. From her tiny doodles stories began to emerge.
Chaos the Kitten Who Broke the Moon and Pandora the Sea Turtle were her first creations. After their beloved family pets passed away Katrina created “Bad Habits” in their honour. After “Bad Habits” was published a flood of ideas and characters emerged, including Lucy Hoot which came from a mad scribble and is now a published book.
