Carol Selick, winner of the 2022 Firebird Book Award in Biographical Fiction and Women’s Fiction, is a multi-talented artist who has made her mark as both an author and a singer-songwriter.

In her new autobiographical novel, “Beyond the Song,” Carol traces her coming of age during the turbulent Sixties and early Seventies. Each chapter begins with lyrics from her original songs, which she still performs today. The book follows the development of Carol’s alter-ego, Carol Marks, as she rebels against her strict upbringing and immerses herself in the counter-culture, dreaming of making it in the music industry.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Carol now performs a diverse repertoire that includes jazz, rhythm and blues, pop, and her own compositions. With a passion for education, she has taught piano and voice for many years.
